Halloween Candle Ideas
1. Firebox Bleeding Skull Candle – £19.99
2. Yankee Candle ‘Candy Corn’ Tealights – £6.99
3. Yankee Candle ‘Witches Brew’ tealights – £6.99
4. Yankee Candle ‘Honey Glow’ Large Jar – £19.00
5. John Lewis Bat Pillar Wax Candle (Large) – £8.00
6. Notonthehighstreet.com Halloween Wax L.E.D Candles – £8.00
The best way to start decorating your home for Halloween is with candles. Autumn’s the best time to start investing in a good candle collection, and we covered the ones we love in our Autumn 2014 Wishlist, but candles are especially atmospheric for Halloween.
To begin with you need the candles themselves. Yankee Candle have some incredible exclusive Halloween scents like Candy Corn and Witches Brew that are definitely worth checking out; but if you don’t want to buy a Halloween exclusive (even though you’d probably have enough left to burn them again next year!) Honey Glow is a great alternative and will work in your home throughout Autumn. Make sure you’re speedy though, Halloween Yankee Candles tend to sell out quickly!
John Lewis also have some Halloween candles, and they really do look the part. You can see small bats in the orange wax – a perfect display for a party. If you’d fancy leaving out the potential fire hazard (especially if you’ve got little kids running around!) then Not On The Highstreet’s LED Wax-look candles might be more for you. With these Halloween candles you can keep the spooky atmosphere without worrying about them being knocked over or going out, and you don’t need to worry about saving them for the next year.
And finally, if you want something that will REALLY wow your guests, you should take a look at the bleeding skull candle from Firebox which is a candle and a holder all in one. As it melts, the red wax drips from the eye hole.
Halloween Candle Holder Ideas
1. Urban Outfitters Skull Candle Holders (x2) – £10
2. Yankee Candle ‘Happy Ghost’ Tealight Holder – £14.99
3. Notonthehighstreet.com Brass Candle Holder – £9
4. Baker Ross Ceramic Pumpkin Tealight Holder (Pack of 16, also available as a pack of 4) – £15.20
5. Wilko Pumpkin Tealight Holder – £5.00
Now that you’ve gotten your candles it’s time for a few appropriately themed Halloween candle holders. Again, Yankee Candle have an awesome Halloween collection for a higher budget, and I’ve popped some of our favourites above. You can’t go wrong with anything pumpkin themed for Halloween, and if you’ve already gotten your home ready with some Autumn decorations then the colours will go together perfectly.
If all of these skull, pumpkin and spider Halloween decoration ideas are a little too ‘in your face’ for your home design (but let’s face it, what Halloween decorating ideas list would be complete without them?), why not try a plain and simple brass or copper candle holder? You can be subtle with your decorations and let the candles themselves create the Halloween atmosphere!
Once you’ve picked out your favourite Halloween candle holders, it’s time to dot them around the house. Try putting them wherever there’s space – just make sure there’s nothing flammable around!
Halloween Fairy Light Ideas
1. Notonthehighstreet.com Halloween Ghost String Fairy Lights – £12.99
2. Festive Lights 10 Pumpkin Halloween Fairy Lights – £4.99
3. Amazon 50 orange, red and yellow LED fairy lights – £9.99
4. Asda Purple Bats Fairy Lights – £4.00
5. Glow Halloween String Lights (Bat, Spider, Pumpkin or Ghost) – £4.99
That bit about candles being a fire hazard got you thinking you’re not careful enough to put a bunch around your house, didn’t it? Well then you could always look into stringing some Halloween fairy lights around to create the same kind of atmosphere with less risk of burning your house down.
Fairy lights aren’t really seen as a Halloween decoration idea in the UK, mainly because they’re associated with Christmas and people don’t think they’re scary enough! Although that might be true, they’ll still lighten up your home and create a nice glow for visitors. I’ve included pretty much all the usual suspects; bat fairy lights, pumpkin fairy lights, ghost fairy lights, you name it. Like with the candle holders though, you can be more subtle. Simple orange fairy lights can give your room the right kind of Halloween lighting, without being so in your face.
Try wrapping your Halloween lights around a staircase banister, pinning them around the top edges of a bookshelf or even draping them over the top of a fireplace shelf. If you want to get your bedroom into the theme you could wrap them around a mirror, or your bed-frame. If you’re having a party you could pin them around the edges of a door or a window. My absolute favourite way of using them though is to curl them up in a glass jar or vase to make a fairy light glass feature like the one to the left.
Halloween Trick Or Treating Decoration Ideas
1. Notonthehighstreet.com Happy Halloween Door Sign – £10.00
2. Marks & Spencer Scary Halloween Chalkboard Sign – £6.00
3. Ideal Home Show Shop Eat Drink And Be Scary Halloween Door Sign – £4.00
4. Ideal Home Show Shop Caution Halloween Door Sign – £4.00
5. John Lewis Metal Halloween Wreath – £10.00
Even if the inside of your home isn’t decorated perfectly for Halloween, I’ve still got a few ideas to have the world thinking it is! Pop a sign on your door to welcome Trick or Treaters (or to be a grump and scare them away, it’s your call), or put up a wreath for a party. You don’t have to stick to your front door either, these would be the perfect decorations inside for a Halloween party.
Halloween Wall Sticker Ideas
1. Bouf.com Halloween Ghost Wall Stickers – £6.00
2. Amazon Halloween Glow In The Dark Owl Stickers – £5.99
3. Notonthehighstreet Bats And Spiders Halloween Wall Stickers – £16.00
4. Notonthehighstreet Halloween Pumpkin Ghost And Bat Window Stickers – £12.50
5. Notonthehighstreet Halloween Ghost Window Sticker – £8.00
A quick and easy idea to give your home a mini-makeover is to decorate it with Halloween wall stickers. These are the perfect decoration for kids rooms, but they can be just as appealing to adults as long as you find the right ones for you. They come in many different colours so you don’t have to worry about having white walls; in fact, the ghost wall stickers from Bouf look better in a lighter colour on a darker wall!
You don’t need to worry about how these stickers will battle it out with your walls either; many of them guarantee to leave no residue so you won’t be left with patchy paintwork or wallpaper ripped off. If you want something a bit smaller and less noticeable though, you could get some simple Halloween window stickers like the ones shown above.
Halloween Wall Decoration Ideas
1. Notonthehighstreet Halloween Cat in Pumpkin Garland – £18.00
2. John Lewis Halloween Hanging Spider Decoration – £2.50
3. Clinton Cards Halloween Bunting Banner – £3.50
4. The Range Spider Webbing With Six Spiders – £1.00
5. John Lewis Tissue Halloween Pumpkin Paper Garland – £2.50
6. Marks And Spencers Halloween Pumpkin Tinsel – £4.00
Wall stickers aren’t for everyone, but don’t worry I’ve got even more ideas for what Halloween decorations you could put up instead! Halloween banners, garlands and bunting don’t have to just be for parties, you can use them as decorations throughout the end of October if they’re nice enough. You could try pinning ‘spiderwebs’ up around furniture or draping it over a dining table. You could tape a banner up around your front door. You could even lay down the Halloween cat in pumpkin garland from Notonthehighstreet over a fireplace shelf, on a window-ledge or string a few around the headboard of your children’s beds.

7. John Lewis Assorted Halloween Pumpkin Hot Chocolate Stirrers – £3.50
8. John Lewis Halloween Pumpkin Marshmallows – £4.00
9. Notonthehighstreet Halloween Skeleton Hands – £3.00
What would Halloween be without the food? I could write an entirely new post on dinner ideas, so for the sake of sticking to decoration ideas I’ve gone for the more extravagant things. All of these would work perfectly for a party, but even if you’re not planning one you could pop some themed chocolates in a suitably spooky bowl and place it as the centre-piece of a coffee table for when friends come round throughout October. The free printable jar labels are an incredible way of turning simple jars and bottles into stand out Halloween features. If you decide to make any of these, you could place your new Halloween themed bottles on a coffee table, or Halloween themed jars onto a bookshelf or on top of a cabinet.
If you’re really trying to get into the Halloween spirit, make sure you stock up on chocolate before October 31st! You don’t want to be stuck without when the trick or treaters come by. Seeing sad children dragging their feet as they walk away from your door with apples in hand isn’t really what you want from the night….
