Don’t bathrooms get boring? After you’ve done yours up and been happily proud of yourself for a few months, you’ll find it starting to grate on you. Have no fear though, I’m here to give you a few cheap bathroom decoration ideas to help you change up your room on a budget!
It’s gotten to that time of year where a chill’s settling in, leaves are changing colours and falling from trees, and suddenly all you want to do is snuggle up under a cosy blanket with a nice mug of hot chocolate. The way we feel about our homes starts to change too; the way you had it decorated in the warmer months is starting to feel a little dull, and you’re probably craving a change. We’ve already shown you some incredible home decorations you can get on a budget, but there was little specifically for the bathroom. The leaves change colour for free, why can’t we do the same with the inside of our homes?!
Don’t stress though, I’ve got a whole bunch of budget-friendly bathroom upgrades here that should keep you and your (rapidly being taken over by cobwebs) bank account happy. We promote value for money over cheap here at Sensible Reviewer, so I’ve made sure to find the best prices for the best products.

CHEAP BATHROOM DECORATION IDEAS
Upgrade Your Bathmat And Towels
Getting some cheap bathroom towels and a budget bathmat might sound like it’ll hardly change the look of your room at all, but see that picture above? How well does that bathmat tie in all the colours? This is easy to mess up though; maybe don’t go for fluorescent yellow or anything like that (unless blinding yourself and any guests is your kind of thing). You’ll be spending a lot of your time in the bathroom, especially early in the morning wh
en you’ll really need a calming atmosphere, so consider mellow colours like greys, muted greens and blues.
Or go all out crazy. It’s your call. It’s only a bathmat and some towels after all.
Here are a few cheap bathmats and towels I’m loving:
- Diamonte Towel – £4 to £9
- John Lewis The Basics Towels – £0.35p to £6
- Winter Pear 100% Cotton Pedestal and Bath Mat Set – £8
- Premium 8 Piece Towel Set – £19.99
Declutter Your Space
You won’t believe how much of a difference actually putting things away makes. I know, there are some really outside of the box ideas on this post, I’m telling you. I’d be willing to bet that the majority of the time your bathroom’s a tip and all the shiny things need a good scrub though.
Think you’ve got too much stuff to get rid of it all? Try putting soap into dispensers, hiding clutter away in a wall cupboard, or even getting a wicker basket to chuck unsightly essentials into. Do whatever you can to get some kind of organisation going, because not only will that trick you into feeling like you have more space than you did before, but it’ll also mean the things you do keep on the sides will really stand out.
It might not be easy to keep bathrooms this way (especially if you share one with roommates, or worse yet, children) but try! My next ideas will work so much better with a ‘blank’ canvas.
- Three Tier Bathroom Caddie – £19.99
- Silver Glitter Storage Basket – £5
- Woven Storage Basket – £10
- HOME Prime 2 Drawer Medium Bathroom Storage Unit – £39.99
Upgrade Your Bathroom Accessories
Though you’ll probably want to keep your sides as uncluttered as possible in an ideal world, let’s just admit to ourselves now that it’s not going to happen. And what would your guests think of you if you didn’t have soap out for them to use (*cough* unhygienicandweirdhouse *cough*)? So let’s resign ourselves to the fact we’ll need the essentials, and have a think about how you can upgrade them on a budget to really look the part.
I’d recommend starting with a soap dispenser – get one if you haven’t already! Wait, you only use that plastic one that the soap comes in when you buy it? What are you, an animal? It needs to be presentable! Get something that ties into your colour-scheme, or even something a bit different like the first-aid mug above or the bird toothbrush holder below. However you want to dress your sink up, I’ve had a look around to see if it’s possible to get cheap bathroom accessory upgrades, and surprise surprise it is. No excuses now.
Here are a few cheap bathroom accessories I’m loving:
- Little Rose Ceramic Soap Dispenser – £9 – £10
- Home 3 Piece Bathroom Accessory Set – £12.00
- Bronte Charm Pedal Bin, White Rose – £5.99
- John Lewis & Partners White Marble Soap Dispenser – £18
Add Some Plants
Who has the time to look after plants? If you are saying ‘not me’, then how about some artificial plants which will never need any attention? See how different they make the room look above? They take rooms from boring and colourless to vibrant and full of life! Get some hardy, green plants for the bathroom and steer clear of any flowery ones. Save the flowers for the rest of the house and garden.
Even if you think you don’t have the space for plants you probably do. You could pop a pot on a window-ledge, a shelf, the edge of the bath (when you’re not in it of course) or even on the toilet shelf. Think about it; have you ever heard of anyone complaining because they regretted getting a plant?
- Decorative Grass– £12
- Bamboo Tree in Willow Basket – £13.99
- Artificial Bamboo in Terracotta Pot – £10.99
- Eucalyptus Arrangement in Bottle – £10
Upgrade To Beautiful Budget Shower Curtains
If you want to change just one thing in your bathroom, the shower curtains are a great place to start. Usually, these get gross pretty quickly (unless you invest in some anti-mould shower curtains, which are well worth the money), and after a point washing just won’t cut it. And the last thing your guests want to walk in on is a green shower curtain that should be white…
This might sound like an exaggeration, but changing the colour or pattern of a curtain can really change the whole theme of a room. Seriously, pop on a black or white and red curtain and you’ve got something right out of psycho. But put on a pastel blue one and you’re suddenly at the beach. Ok, not really, but it’ll definitely help your daydreams when you’re in the shower before work.
The Beautiful Budget Shower Curtains I’m Loving:
- HOME Shower Curtain – Geo Grey – £11.99
- Flowers Shower Curtain – Silver – £9.99
- Cooke & Lewis Napo Taupe Dots Shower Curtain – £12
- John Lewis Cactus Shower Curtain – £15
Give Your Bathroom Walls A Lick Of New Paint
What cheap bathroom decoration idea list would be complete without the stereotypical REPAINT everything tip? It’s crazy how different the bathroom above looks just by changing up the colour scheme though. And you see that added plant in the after picture? Told you that tip was gold.
Paint is so inexpensive now, and redecorating like this is such a budget bathroom upgrade if you do it all yourself. You could go for a radical change like the bathroom above, although changing from a white to a black scheme takes a lot of courage. It was either going to look incredible or terrible right? If you’re too worried about messing the room up by choosing the wrong colour, just paint one feature wall. You could paint it something outrageous or something incredibly subtle, and gradually over time you could get cheap accessories to compliment the colour like new towels. Just make sure you look online for some inspiration – painting a giant mural on one wall of your cats might seem like an incredible idea to you, but you’ve just creeped out every future guest that bathroom ever has. Don’t do it.
- Light Rain Soft Sheen Emulsion Paint – £15 (2L)
- Eau De Nil Soft Sheen Emulsion Paint – £15 (2L)
- Deep Blue Sea Soft Sheen Emulsion Paint – £15 (2L)
- Duck Egg Soft Sheen Emulsion Paint – £15 (2L)
Make a Glass Bowl of Floating Candles
How awesome do they look? Making little features like this aren’t difficult and I’ll hold your hand and walk you through it; I know how scary DIY is, don’t worry. Just get a bowl or jar (pro tip – get multiple ones all different sizes to make this a stand-out feature), some pebbles or other decorations for the bottom, and some floating candles. Top up the bowl / jars with water, dump in your decorations or leave it empty, then pop in your candles. Magic! It’s done!
These look incredible perched on the edge of a bath or on a window ledge, and you’ll really appreciate them any time you want a relaxing pamper session. They’re such little effort too, so no complaints that this is just too difficult to make!
Put Up Shelves Or Pictures
If you keep complaining you have no space in your bathroom, just stop. No one has any sympathy for you if you haven’t put up some shelves for extra storage. Unless you’re renting, in which case… sorry… I definitely feel your pain. In any case, some of the best ways to do up your bathroom on the cheap are to add in budget shelves or small pictures.
You don’t have to put in bathroom themed pictures. We’ve probably seen enough nautical illustrations in bathrooms to last us a lifetime, thank you very much. Just put in something you like that’s calming to match the atmosphere. Try not to put in photos though, no one wants their family staring at them while they’re doing their business…
Take inspiration from the picture above and hammer in some hooks to hang up towels rather than folding them up and putting them in a cupboard. Think how different that’d look if it didn’t have the towels hanging there. If your towels are a bold colour they can even act as statement pieces, as weird as that sounds. Just give it a try!
