This year I’ve been prepared pretty well for the holiday’s that usually sneak up on me; Mother’s Day included. I’ve taken a look online for the gifts that seem best suited (and in the best price range!) for my mum, but one of my friends hasn’t been as quick to decide on what to get. He’s been struggling, looking through endless lists of websites, not knowing what his mum would want.
With a series of simple questions like ‘does she like cooking, really love makeup, or does she prefer getting things for the house?’ I’ve helped him to find the right present for her. The search wasn’t easy though, so for all of you out there struggling right now I’ve compiled my Top 10 best places to buy for Mother’s Day, no matter what your mum loves or your budget!
1. For a Mum who loves to relax – LUSH
If you’ve never tried a Lush product before, they’re amazing quality and turn a normal bath into an indulgent one. They smell lovely and, I wouldn’t normally comment on packaging, but the boxes all come in is great. On the run up to Mother’s Day, there will be specially-made ‘Mum’ boxes available! If you want to grab one for yourself, click here to go to Lush.
2. For a Mum who loves homeware – JOHN LEWIS
Getting presents for Mum’s who are into their interior design is usually risky business – like buying a dress, you can never be sure it’s going to be the right fit. However, one thing that will always come into use is a clock. We always need to know what the time is, don’t we? This would be great for any Mums into their cooking too as a piece for the kitchen. Head here to John Lewis’ Home section and snag yourself absolutely anything from there – it will be such good quality and go down a treat.
3. For a fashionable Mum – DEBENHAMS
Ok, so like I pointed out above, buying clothes for your Mum could be a bad move. What if it doesn’t fit? Will the size you think she is be an insult? It’ll more than likely be taken back and leave you both feeling bad, or she’ll wear it to make you happy but secretly dislike it. A scarf fixes these problems. If the colour is kept muted, it’ll go with a variety of outfits – she can dress it up with a smart jacket or down with a pair of jeans. If she likes a particular colour, get her a scarf in that shade so she can always be bold. At only £16 it’s a safe option for a risky category! Click here to go to the scarf section on the website.
4. For a Mum who loves the fragrance – YANKEE CANDLE
Candles. Candles are a STAPLE for Mother’s Day, along with the chocolate and flowers. But so many are just rubbish. They don’t smell at all. SO going to Yankee Candle will solve all of that – they are strong without being sickeningly powerful, and there are some large candles which could last for ages even with constant use. Shop at Yankee here.
5. For a Mum who loves chocolate – AMAZON
Don’t we all! But I bet you’re currently thinking “Why Amazon?!” Well, I have said this because if you want to get her a particular box, finding it on Amazon is easier than finding it on the high street, and it’ll even be delivered to your door. They have a much wider selection than your local supermarket.
Shop the chocolates at Amazon here, and my personal favourite pick is The Pick-Me-Up from Hotel Chocolat.
6. For a Mum who has everything – RED LETTER DAYS
Some Mums are tricky to buy for, I get that. Sometimes I feel like my Mum has everything she’d ever need, and there’s nothing I could add to that collection (that she’d actually appreciate). In this case, an experience is much better than an actual item. Although pricey, a Red Letter Days gift experience from John Lewis could be perfect. Let your Mum choose her own present from a range of different experiences including massages, manicures and pedicures, scuba diving, cupcake decorating and cookery classes. She’ll find something she enjoys, I can almost guarantee it! Make sure to get her to look at the ‘Nationwide’ list of activities rather than her hometown, it has much more choice for where she lives. Click here to take a look at their dedicated Mother’s Day picks.
7. For a Mum who loves surprises – MOONPIG
So I’ve given you a chocolate and a candle idea; you must have known the flowers and card were coming. They’re everyone’s go-to gift for Mother’s Day, but there’s an easy way to make them special. Get them delivered to her door when she’s least expecting it. You can get her a card delivered at the same time, and it can be personalised. Shop at Moonpig here.
8. For a Mum who loves her jewellery – WAYFAIR
If you have a Mum who loves jewellery then you might be having a hard time finding something she either doesn’t already have or what you think she might like. I love anything antique, but somewhere like Wayfair with a large selection will keep everyone happy. They are perfect for her to pop her jewellery into, and you can never have too much jewellery storage, click here to explore the range.
9. For a Mum who takes skin care seriously – KIEHLS
A world-renowned company for skin care and they have such a massive range for everyone. The good news is that they have products that won’t offend your mum, either. From moisturisers to toners, you’ll find it here. Shop Kiehls skincare here.
10. For a Mum who loves tea – WHITTARDS
If your mum loves tea, get her more than a standard blend. Whittards has a huge range of teas, as well as hot chocolates and equipment, too. Take a look here. Turkish Apple Flavour Instant Tea, anyone?
So that completes my Top 10 picks for Mother’s Day, but there are plenty more products and retailers to look through. I’ve tried to show you a good selection of different places to suit everyone. I’m a big advocate of quality over price though, and really believe you get what you pay for! Go out and buy your Mum the best thing you can, she really deserves it.
