After three long years on the dole and just as long working as a voluntary shop assistant for a local charity shop, I’ve picked up a few handy tips on how to be savvy with what little money is left over after monthly expenses. It’s because of this that my Nan dubbed me ‘The Bargain Queen’. Apart from the occasional item bought for me buy a family member, virtually everything I own I did not pay full price for. And it’s important to keep the same ethos running, even now as a student with a loan as my only source of income.
Here’s how I do it!
1. eBay: The biggest online auction site in the world. However, if you can’t find what you’re looking for after being spoilt for choice with seller’s new goods, try the ‘Buy Now’ option! By selecting ‘Lowest First: Price and P&P’, you come across gems you would not have found looking through the first search page eBay showed to you.
2. Amazon: Like eBay, Amazon Market place is great for those who want to set up their own online shops and offer good prices to customers. Unlike eBay, Amazon offers a ‘New and Used’ option. This means that you are able to find the best deal for a price you are happy to pay from different sellers.
3. Wowcher: This is a fabulous website! All you need to do to access what they have to offer is sign up with your e-mail address. Once you’ve signed up, the guys at wowcher.com will give you the option of picking one or more interest. Every time something within one of those categories finds a deal match, Wowcher will e-mail you! Pretty neat, ey? Everything from Jewellery to outdoor activities are featured on their website, with up to 90 – YES, 90%!!! – Off!
4. Factory Outlet Stores: These are a favourite of mine. Everything you could ever need in your home under one roof. There is nothing wrong with the product; items are those that have not sold in store due to too many being ordered. I found that theoriginalfactoryshop.co.uk is suited to all your home and personal needs, with their featured ‘Deal of the Week’ as well as other products at insanely competitive prices.
5. Fat Fingers: The search engine for eBay glitches. It features name brands that are spelt wrong, so watch for seller’s spelling mistakes and check Fat Fingers later to see if you can land a better deal – it’s that easy! You could end up getting that new 40” Polaroid flat screen for half the price. Tempting, I gotta say!
