When you need to buy something as vital for your home as a washing machine, you’ll want to make sure it’s not going to start flooding your house after the first wash, or cost an arm and a leg to run. Especially since you’ll probably be forking out well over £150 for one.
In this post I’ll show you the 7 11 best cheap washing machines for 2018 in the UK; because although keeping costs down is important, getting a quality product for that money means you won’t be wasting it.

The 7 Best Cheap Washing Machines 2018 In The UK
Just as I did with the best budget laptops guide, I’ll give you a quick run down of the specifications you really need to know (with less of the techy mumbo-jumbo) and tell you why exactly you’d want each machine and what different kinds of people they’ll suit.
We’ll start with the cheapest, and move on to the most expensive.
ESSENTIALS C510WM14
The ESSENTIALS C510WM14 washing machine is a simple yet powerful machine and is one of the cheapest quality washing machines on the market. It offers a quick wash cycle so you can spruce up your clothes even if you are in a hurry. This is an affordable, no-nonsense washing machine that is the perfect addition to any home.
Essentials C510WM14 Specs you need to know:
- 5kg capacity
- 1000rpm spin speed
- Quick Wash time: 30 minutes
- A+ energy rating
- 15 programmes
- 1 year warranty
Ideal for small households on a limited budget, this washing machine features a clean, modern and basic design which will look great in any kitchen.
In all honesty, it does the job really well for the price. At the time of reviewing, 791 people have given it an average of 4/5 stars, with people complimenting its price and the range of settings it offers.
It’s a bit louder and shakier than some of the others when in use, especially on the highest spin settings, but for the amount of time it is washing this isn’t a massive concern. It’s a little more economic to use than a lot of the budget models out there too, so it’s an ideal replacement for an ageing appliance yet it won’t break the bank.

The Electra W1042CF1W specs you need to know:
- 5kg capacity
- 1000 rpm spin speed
- A++ energy rating
- 15 programmes
- Allergy Rinse
In recent months, having a big brand name attached to the things you buy has become less important. This extends to appliances too, because more often than not the components you find inside are exactly the same used by the bigger brand names.
Electra certainly isn’t as well known as the other brands on this list, but this machine has a load of nifty features which will certainly interest you. The main one which stuck out, in my opinion, was the Allergy Rinse, which rinses clothes in extra hot water to remove all traces of detergent.
This would be perfect for anybody with sensitive skin, or indeed anyone with hayfever who has been outside. The energy rating is also high, which means it is good for the planet and your water bills – the estimated annual running cost is only £22.64.

The LOGIK L612WM16 Specs you need to know:
- 6kg capacity
- 1200 rpm spin speed
- A+ energy rating
- 15-minute quick wash
- 16 programmes
- Front loading
With a 6kg capacity, this Logik model exclusively from Curry’s is a step up from most of the other machines in its price range. And, with the shortest quick wash taking only 15 minutes, it is perfect not only for larger families but hectic households too.
Maybe a P.E kit needs to be freshened up before tomorrow, or you’ve just realised before bed that you have no clean blouses for work? Fear not.
As a bonus, it is really quiet no matter which cycle it is on. Don’t just take my word for it either; a lot of the 2,901 reviews say the same, and it has an overall score of 8.7/10 on Reevoo.

Beko WTG50M1W Specs you need to know:
- 5kg capacity
- 1000 rpm
- A++ energy rating
- Quick wash is 14 minutes
- 15 programmes
The last of the models I have reviewed which comes in at under £200, the Beko 5kg WTG50M1W has an Xpress Super Short programme which ensures any small load under 2kg will be pristine in under 15 minutes.
The controls and display are straightforward and easy to navigate, and with an estimated £22.79 worth of annual energy being used, it isn’t going to send your costs soaring.
It is also available in silver – although whether this warrants the slight price hike will have to be entirely up to you and your kitchen colour scheme.
From what I can tell, this is a solid machine. Reviewers claim this is great for a growing family because it’s very economical to run, has an insanely fast quick wash time (I mean, 14 minutes, come on) and it looks more modern that some of the cheaper models.
Get it HereIndesit My Time EWE91482W
The Indesit My Time EWE91482W specs to know:
- Huge 9kg capacity
- 1400 rpm
- A++ Rated
- 16 wash programmes
- Baby, Duvet and Sports shoes cycles
The Indesit My Time range is quite extensive, with each machine offering something slightly different to the others.
This mighty model offers a huge 9kg capacity which I am sure will be top on the priority list for family homes, as well as many dedicated cycles for particular clothing such as silk and those hard to clean baby clothes. There is also special drum action to reduce the number of creases your clothing develops, so less time is spent on the ironing – definitely worth the money.
Why this one in particular makes the list is because, for the capacity, you don’t actually pay much more for the amount you get. The speed ability is bigger, and there is 3kg more space than its next cheapest version. For these extra features, the price seems incredibly low.
Overall I think this is a great machine from a well-known brand, which would be perfect for any growing family.

The LOGIK L814WMS17 washing machine is one of the best cheap washing machines I could find, boasting an A+++ energy rating and a generously sized drum. Get it HereServis L712W Washing Machine
The Servis L712W has so many more features than I would’ve guessed for a budget washing machine. It isn’t much louder than more premium washing machine models, and it’ll only cost you about £11.43 a year to run because of it’s extremely low energy and water consumptions.
The Servis L712W Specs You Need To Know:
- Capacity 7kg (about 35 shirts)
- Spin Speed 1200rpm
- Quick Wash Time = 15mins
- Energy Rating A+++
- Wash Performance = A
- Spin Performance = B
- 15 Wash Programmes
This is a brilliant little machine, with 15 really easy to use washing programmes and although it’s not the best cleaner, it does an incredible job for it’s price. It’s highly rated across tech review sites as one of the best cheap washing machines, and I can see why. Even it’s 15 minute quick wash cycle gets small wash loads adequately clean, and it’s heavy soil option can battle the toughest stains you throw at it. Overall a great machine for busy families.
Get it from ArgosLogik LIW714W15 Washing Machine
A special shout out goes to the Logik LIW714W15 washing machine is recommended by the experts at Currys, and although I was sceptical about what that actually meant when I first clicked it (like, were they just trying to sell more of it?), I’ve since been convinced. Although it’s pretty cheap right now in the Easter sales, it’s a solid machine and the reviews from customers speak for themselves.
The Logik LIW714W15 Specs You Need To Know:
- Capacity 6kg (around 25 shirts)
- Spin Speed 1200rpm
- Quick Wash Time = 15mins
- Energy Rating A+
- Wash Performance = A
- Spin Performance = B
- 16 Wash Programmes
I’ve delved into the 647 reviews over on Reevoo where the Logik washing machine’s been rated a reassuring 8.4 out of 10 stars, and I’ve picked out the bits and pieces you’ll need to know about it. The first, and one of the best points, is it’s often mentioned how quiet it is. The hottest setting is 60C, but honestly with the amount of tablets now offering thorough cleans for 40C and lower, do you really need a higher setting? Nope, think about the environment (and the money you’ll be saving)!
It’ll be a good price to run as well, with it’s A+ energy rating. And it’s honestly the one of the best cheap washing machines in 2018 because it’s the cheapest on this list! Being the cheapest though, expect some downfalls. It’s not going to last forever, it’s not the biggest machine in the world (but perfectly adequate for a small household), and some of it’s cycles do take a while to get through.
At a price under £270 (at the time of writing), you’d be crazy not to snap this up if you’re on a budget for your washing machine. If you’ve got a bit more to spare though, head on to the next machines.
Get it HereBOSCH WAB28261GB
A great Bosch machine for under £300!
The BOSCH WAB28261GB specs you need to know:
- Capacity 6kg
- Spin Speed 1200 rpm
- Quick Wash Time 45 minutes
- Energy Rating A+++
- 15 Wash Programmes
This is the cheapest Bosch washing machine I could find that’s still rated highly enough to make it worth the money. The technical specs might make it seem small, but it’s actually recommended for large families because it has something the other washing machines I’ve mentioned don’t; SpeedPerfect technology which speeds up your wash cycle by up to 65%!
So, you’re probably wondering where that SpeedPerfect technology comes into it if the quick wash time is longer than most other washing machines, right? It basically works on every program, so if you’re in a rush, you can get most of the results from a full-length cycle in 65% less time.
The Bosch WAB24161GB also has ActiveWater technology. It’ll weigh the number of clothes you put in, take into consideration how dirty you’ve reported them to be and which wash cycle you want, and use the exact amount of water necessary. This makes it economical to run, and great for the environment!
Get it HereBOSCH Serie 4 WAN28080GB
OK so this is a wildcard, weighing in at over the £300 price point – but I just felt it worthy of a mention. It’s one of the most expensive on this list, but there are a few extras which I think justifies this price.
Bosch Serie 4 WAN28080GB Specs you need to know:
- 7kg capacity
- 1400 rpm spin speed
- 15-minute quick wash time
- Energy rating A+++
- 15 wash programmes
Bosch’s Eco Silence Drive motor uses magnets rather than brushes, so there are fewer moving parts inside your washing machine and less wear and tear over time. If you’re wondering what on earth that means in simple terms, basically it’ll be quiet and last longer.
And something for those who always find they’ve dropped a sock on the way to the washing machine after they’ve pressed start – the Reload function lets you add to the wash when it is in motion, checking the water levels and adjusting them if necessary.
ActiveWater and EcoWater technology use only the right amount of water for the load, making sure you keep your energy bills down and help the planet, without losing cleaning power.
Get it HereSamsung Ecobubble WW70J5355MW Washing Machine
So we’re over the £300 limit. I had to scoot over it to get a Samsung washing machine into a best cheap washing machines post, because they’re honestly not cheap. When you’re buying quality there’s got to be a downfall somewhere, and that’s usually on the price. This washing machine is quality and has a great warranty period, so it’s honestly worth the money.
The Samsung Ecobubble WW70J5355MW Specs You Need To Know:
- Capacity 7kg (about 35 shirts)
- Spin Speed 1200rpm
- Quick Wash Time = 15mins
- Energy Rating A+++
- Wash Performance = A
- Spin Performance = B
- 16 Wash Programmes
The question I always ask when I see a big brand like Samsung is, am I paying more because of the features, or for the label? Let’s start with the extras that I haven’t mentioned on the specs; the Stain Away and ecobubble technology.
Bubble Soak is perfect for families with kids, and literally does what it says on the tin, working hard to remove stains like grass, blood and mud. The ecobubble technology is what these Samsung washing machines are known for, and what puts this particular machine at the top of this budget price guide. Before your wash cycle starts, the ecobubble technology mixes the detergent with air and water which creates tiny bubbles. These can wash fabrics more easily and quickly, making a cooler wash just as effective as a warm one.
What does this mean for you? Quicker and colder washes, and a washing machine that’s cheap to run. With a longer guarantee, you can be sure your money won’t be wasted either.
