Are you an espresso aficionado? Can’t get through your day without a quick latte fix? Or are you more of the curled up on the sofa with a hot chocolate type? Whatever your preference, I’ve found the perfect coffee machine for you. And trust me, after seeing this list you’ll find it hard not to buy one…
I’ll let you in on a (not so interesting) fact about me. I’m a coffee addict. And luckily so are the majority of the people I work with, so I never find myself stuck with no one to grab a quick coffee with. Unfortunately a love of coffee is not something shared in my home, so although I’m crazy for espressos, I had to compromise and find a great ‘all-rounder’ hot drinks machine for my kitchen side. Although I am desperate to get the best espresso machine for 2015, my partner just wouldn’t get any use out of it; so I got us a Tassimo Joy that makes drinks we both love.
My research into other coffee machines won’t go to waste though, I’m going to use it to help out you, lovely reader! So whether you’re crazy about coffee, or more of an all-round hot drinks maker, you’ll find the right coffee machine for you below.

Best Coffee Espresso Machines
As far as capsule machines go, Nespresso are pretty much the king of brands for making home espresso. And if we’re going for affordability (and Amazon Popularity) the Krups Pixie Nespresso Machine is the best of the best. It has 4 and a half stars out of 5 from 222 Amazon reviews. It comes in a bunch of different colours. It’s tiny, so it won’t be hogging your counter-space. Its everything an espresso lover needs in a coffee espresso machine, in a teeny tiny package.
If you’re wondering which Nespresso machine to buy, I think the Krups Pixie is a great starting point:
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to the pods and their flavours; just look at all of these! I bet you didn’t even know espresso’s came in that many flavours. My personal favourites are Vanilio and Caramelito (vanilla and caramel, if you couldn’t guess). The one thing you always have to keep in mind with any kind of pod coffee machine is how much the pods will be after you’ve invested in the machine. With Nespresso coffee espresso machines this is even more vital, because they only take their own pods. Use fakes at your own risk, and plan ahead if you’re head over heels for the machine.
Ooo, just look at this beauty. This is cheaper than the Nespresso coffee espresso machine, and normally I’d say you get what you pay for, but honestly this is an anomaly. FrancisFrancis are known for incredible machines that can use the world famous Illy coffee capsules. So you’re in safe hands with this John Lewis coffee machine at such an amazing price.
This coffee espresso machine is a real powerhouse, and takes any IperEspresso capsules. If you want to see the variety you could get for it, just have a look here. It certainly looks the part; a minimalists dream, and at only 30cm it’s perfect for small counter-tops.
If you’re struggling to decide between the two machines, I’d say the Nespresso machine from Amazon is better if you want variety in your flavours because of the sheer number of different capsules, whereas if you’re just looking for an incredible taste from a more limited range you should go for the FrancisFrancis from John Lewis. Coffee machines this powerful usually don’t come this cheap, so this is a real steal.
Best Coffee Machine If You Crave Coffee Shop Drinks
Starbucks Verisimo 600 Brewer – Was £149.99, now £99.99
What better coffee machine to give you that coffee shop taste than a Starbucks coffee machine? This machine really looks the part; it’s slick, adjustable, doesn’t take up all that much counter space and has a whole ton of buttons that I’m not entirely sure you’ll need. But yay it looks good!
Like with the Nespresso machine, you have to factor the long-term cost of the pods into your decision when it comes to this machine. But if you’re a bit of a Starbucks addict it could save you some money by letting you stay home and enjoy that sweet sweet coffee. Alone. No more meeting up with friends. No more leaving the house. Why would you need to when you’ve got a Starbucks coffee machine on your kitchen side?
Though you die-hard Pumpkin Spice Latte fans will be in for a disappointment; the only pods you can buy are for standard espressos and lattes. You can buy Starbucks caramel or vanilla syrups though, or look for other syrup flavours through other retailers to give your coffees a kick. They had to make that flavour exclusive to their shops though didn’t they? Now I guess you’ll have to venture outside over Autumn…
An honorary mention for the best coffee machine for coffee shop lovers is coming up in the next section; Costa have their own set of T-Discs for Tassimo machines.
Best ‘Hot Drinks’ Coffee Machine
This Nescafe coffee machine is one of the most popular coffee machines on Amazon, and it’s not difficult to see why. It’s another coffee machine that takes pods, but it has a huge variety from lattes, espressos and cappuccinos to all sorts of hot chocolates, mochas and many many different varieties of tea. They’re pretty affordable too compared to other coffee machine pods.
You won’t even be limited to hot drinks with this coffee machine, oh no. It has a ‘hot or cold’ switch so you can make iced coffees and iced teas in the summer. That’s pretty much a selling point in itself right? Finally I need to point out it’s incredible design; compared to the blocky coffee machines you usually see in peoples homes, this curvaceous device really stands out. I think it sort of looks like a duck… but hey, you can make your own mind up about it.
Bosch Tassimo T20 Hot Drinks Machine – £53.99
I almost had this as a pick for the best coffee shop category, because the Bosch Tassimo T20 takes specialised pods and one of the brands of these is Costa coffee. But it’s the undisputed champion when it comes to making absolutely everything.
Tassimo machines take their own kind of pods called T-Discs. These T-Discs come from a bunch of different brands like Twinings, Carte Noire, Costa, Cadburys and more. So are you feeling like a hot chocolate from the chocolate experts themselves? Pop in a Cadbury, Succhard, Milka or Oreo T-Disc. Or what about the perfect cuppa? Then Twinings is your pick.
This coffee machine is easy to use, easy to clean, and absolutely stunning. I bought it’s older sibling myself, the Bosch Tassimo Joy, to have a good compromise between espressos and hot chocolates in my home. You’d think a jack of all trades would be master of none, but I honestly have no complaints. Bosch and Tassimo really have nailed it. And the 483 Amazon customer reviews back me up on that quite nicely. And don’t worry about where you’re going to get the pods from, you can get them from any major supermarket chain – I get mine from the Tesco coffee department.
Best Coffee Machine If You Love To Make It Yourself
AeroPress Coffee Maker – £22.68
Ok ok, you caught me, this isn’t really a ‘machine’. It’s definitely just a coffee maker. But if you prefer doing things by hand and on the cheap, this is the best thing out there for making the perfect filter coffee. The only things you need to buy are ground coffee and replacement filters, or beans and a grinder if you really want to be pure about this.
I’m not going to lie to you, this method is hard work and much more messy than the machines, but look at the price! As long as you get the right kind of ground coffee for you, this method works fine. And that really is the biggest positive of this little device. In a world where we’re all so picky about the coffee we choose (in case you’re wondering, my absolute favourite is a skinny vanilla white mocha, but you can’t get that in a pod…) the AeroPress lets you make something that’s customised to you. No pods. No being dictated to by companies. You can research your perfect coffee blend and buy from the places you support. But if you’re lazy like me and prefer a machine to quickly make something for you with no fuss, I’d opt for one of the machines above. The choice is yours.
Best Coffee Machine If You Have All The Money In The World
This is the grand-daddy of all coffee machines. It has a touch screen. It has a dial. It that weird steam thing that no one really even uses. But apparently at the click of a button you can have a drink that actually looks exactly like that drink above, with the layers and everything. It’s not like those McDonalds burgers that look oh-so perfect on the adverts and really terrible when you buy yourself one. Nope, this is the real deal.
The Jura Impressa uses real coffee beans, no pods or capsules here. It grinds them only when you want a cup, and only enough for that cup, so you know your drink is always fresh. This coffee machine gives all the individuality of the AeroPress, with all the ease of use as the machines that take pods. It’s so fancy it’s even been likened to the Rolex of coffee machines. Don’t take my word for it though, I’ve never seen a Rolex or a Jura Impressa, so I’m probably not the best person to be advising you on it. You can check out it’s Amazon reviews for some insights though.
And that’s it for this blogpost! Are there any coffee machines you’d add to this list? Let me know in the comments, or over on Facebook or Twitter. I’ll be writing a post in the future with the coolest coffee machines you’ll ever see, so keep an eye out for that!
