Home owner: Why is everything going wrong with the house? I don’t understand.
House: I’m in pain! My parts aren’t working. Fix me!
Sound familiar? If you’re reading this article then chances are it does. A lot of home owners and Land Lords have the same problems crop up be it electrical or plumbing to heating and insulation. Here are my top 3 things you can do to keep your house healthy and glowing with home repairs on a budget!
Help-Link.co.uk: These guys are a government funded scheme run by British Gas. They provide a brand-spanking new boiler worth £1000 to households who cannot afford a replacement once their old one is packed in. However, because they are government funded, those applying will need to check that they are within the bracket to qualify. And yes, it is 100% completely free with no strings attached. (My mom couldn’t believe this and was desperate to find some loop hole only to be disappointed when there wasn’t any). The only thing you pay for is the annual maintenance – cool huh?
Local plumbers/electrician/builders: Local self-employed businesses are now online, so here is another thumbs up for the internet. If you so happen to be in need of an electrician, plumber or builder get online! Every local handyman charge a competitive but fair rate for a day’s work. If you’re still on shaky ground about whom you’re letting into your home – Facebook their company name! More than likely they will have a business page to spread the word. Look at people’s feedback too. The difference between 1 star and 5 stars is massive.
Gardening Services: Now, this is not usually my area of expertise, but I have done my research carefully. Every person I know who has a gardener is an OAP and these OAP’s aren’t always internet savvy (unless they’re my gramps). Each and every one of them has found their gardeners through word of mouth or advertised in their local supermarket when they’ve been to do the weekly shop, and have nothing but praise for them. They’d never dream of Googling when they can do things ‘the old way’. So ask around friends and family and see if there’s anyone they’d recommend for the job. If not, check your local newspaper for any adverts.
