Summer is on its way and there is no better way to splash some summer freshness into your wardrobe than with a new bag this season.
“I’ve always thought of accessories as the exclamation point of a woman’s outfit” (Michael Kors) – so go ahead and make a statement with this season’s latest trends!
Day bags and shoppers: A bag that will be used daily needs to be three things: strong, versatile and practical. These words do not tend to get used in the world of fashion too often but when it comes to a bag that is going to be used a lot it will need to be all of these things. A good day bag needs to be of ample size to carry all our stuff (something that sits happily between a bag you can only fit your credit card in, and loosing your phone in a bottomless pit of a bag), have elbow and shoulder straps and be able to be carried from day into the evening. There are many bags out there that can complete our outfits and still serve us well whilst we shop, here are some beautiful examples:
River Island, £40 Givenchy, £1,295 Oasis, £36
Evening and party bags: The perfect evening bag needs to be able to carry everything you need but most importantly, it needs to stay out the way and not slow down the evening’s fun. A fabulous evening bag can really be the Pièce de résistance to an outfit. Whether you are looking for a statement bag to contrast a classic outfit or a sophisticated clutch there is plenty out there, here are just a few:
Topshop, £28.00 Asos, £30 Dorothy Perkins, £18
Work: Just because a handbag for the office spends most of its day tucked under a desk doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be beautiful! Whether you are in a high powered city job, an office assistant or work minimum wage (I’ve worked two out three, guess which) we all need something to brighten those dreaded Monday mornings. Large bags are great because they can fit lunch, water and flat shoes, should you need to change into them.
Aldo, £29.98 (WAS £45), French Connection £89, River Island £30
Festivals: The most important thing about a festival bag? It needs to be Hands-free! When it comes to getting to the front, partying in large crowds, sitting on other people’s shoulders and clambering in and out of tents we do not need a bag that’s going to fall off our shoulders or be left behind by mistake. This means a backpack or bumbag are the best bet. The great news is they are everywhere this season!
BooHoo £20, Urban Outfitters £20, NewLook £29.99
Best for Holidays: When we travel we want our suitcase big enough for all our bikinis. beach towels, clothes, shoes and cosmetics, as well as being resistant to being tossed around to and from the plane, easily recognisable and still be light (light enough to remain under 15kgs with 10 pairs of shoes in – that may be asking too much). There is a huge range to find out there right now, including:
TK Maxx £49.99, Next £60-£85, John Lewis £229
Best for Beach: Another vital item for holidays/ travel is a reliable beach bag. A day at the beach is all about relaxing but the bag you take has quite an important job to do while you kick back and enjoy the sun. It needs to carry your towels, bikinis, sun cream, hats, books/ e reader and food and water. It needs to protect all of this from sand as well as resist the odd splash of water and keep food and drinks as cool as possible. That’s quite a lot for a bag that only gets used once or twice a year! A little tip a plastic beach bag may seem stylish but it will melt in high temperatures, or failing that, get boiling hot in the sun and burn you as you touch it – so keep it in the shade!
H & M, £7.99, Sensi Studio £140, Lipsy, £40 (£15 conditional offer at Avon)
So whatever your plans may be this summer there is a bag to fit every occasion! Whether you are looking to invest in a bag that will last for years to come or are looking to bag a summer bargain there is something for everyone! Happy Shopping!
