New research by Which? has suggested that annual travel insurance may not always provide the best deal.
Which? got quotes from 69 insurers for a 60 year old taking out 3 single trip policies (4 days in France, 7 days in Italy and 15 days in Spain). They also got quotes from the same insurers for an annual European policy covering all trips and found with 37% of insurers that it was cheaper to get a single trip policy.
However things change when buying worldwide annual travel insurance.
USA and Canada have much higher medical costs, which in turn can make travel insurance more expensive. Almost a third of companies tested charge more for a worldwide single holiday travel policy for up to 24 days than they do for an annual worldwide policy.
To plan ahead work out how many times you are going away and where you are going, to see whether you need single plan or annual travel insurance (USA, Europe or Worldwide will make a difference).
